CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 19, 2024 – The academic feats of student-athletes representing the Monroe College Mustangs seem to become more and more impressive on a yearly basis. An absolutely outstanding 119 Monroe Mustangs student-athletes were named to the 2023-24 NJCAA All-Academic Team on Thursday, easily bettering the previous record of 93 set just last year.

The Mustangs surpassed 100 student-athletes on the NJCAA All-Academic Team list for the first time in program history. Student-athletes qualify for the NJCAA All-Academic Team by accumulated a grade-point average of 3.60 or higher for the 2022-23 academic year. The back-to-back National Champion men's soccer team produced a Monroe-best 38 All-Academic Team members, while the women's soccer team had the second most with 17. Men's cross country/track and field had 11 student-athletes make the list, and combined with nine women's cross country/track and field athletes gives the overall program 20 All-Academic Team honorees.

The Mustangs set a new record for All-Academic First-Team members with 26 student-athletes achieving a perfect 4.00 GPA for the 2023-24 academic year. Another 51 student-athletes earned Second-Team distinction with a GPA in the 3.80-3.99 range. 42 Mustangs then landed between the 3.60-3.79 GPA range to earn Third-Team honors.

Monroe College also had four teams earn 2023-24 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors as part of Thursday's announcements from the NJCAA. The Mustangs men's cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field programs were all atop the list for their respective seasons, while the men's volleyball team is now a perfect 2-for-2 in taking home the award after winning in both seasons on NJCAA competition so far. 15 of Monroe's 16 eligible teams qualified for the NJCAA Academic Team awards by achieving a team GPA of 3.00 or better.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
